Director of IT - Luxury Retirement Provider, London
Client Challenge
A premium luxury residential care provider was seeking a commercially minded Director of IT to develop and deliver a technology strategy capable of supporting an ambitious growth agenda. Reporting directly to the Managing Director, the successful individual needed to transform IT from a traditional support function into a strategic business partner, ensuring technology enhanced both operational excellence and resident experience. The role required expertise across infrastructure, cyber security, data governance, business systems, supplier management and digital transformation, whilst maintaining robust compliance, disaster recovery and business continuity. Experience of implementing and integrating multiple operational platforms—including HR, payroll, CRM, care management, finance and business intelligence systems—was considered essential.
Our Approach
Drawing upon our specialist network across hospitality, healthcare and customer-centric businesses, we targeted technology leaders with a proven track record of delivering enterprise-wide transformation programmes. Our search focused on individuals who combined strong technical expertise with commercial acumen, capable of leading infrastructure strategy whilst remaining hands-on where required.
Particular emphasis was placed on candidates who had successfully:
- Developed technology roadmaps aligned with wider business objectives.
- Led cyber security, governance and data protection initiatives, including recognised accreditation programmes.
- Delivered large-scale systems implementations and change management programmes across multiple business functions.
- Managed third-party suppliers and IT budgets whilst improving service delivery.
- Introduced business intelligence and dashboard reporting to improve operational decision-making.
- Built collaborative relationships across executive leadership teams to position IT as a strategic enabler rather than a support function.
- Demonstrated experience across complex business systems including CRM, HR & Payroll, rostering, finance, learning management, purchasing and operational platforms.
The Result
We presented a shortlist of high-calibre technology executives with experience leading digital transformation within highly regulated, customer-focused environments. The successful candidate demonstrated the ability to balance strategic leadership with operational delivery, bringing expertise in infrastructure modernisation, cyber resilience, systems integration, supplier management and business change. Their experience implementing enterprise technology solutions and developing high-performing IT teams positioned them to support the organisation's long-term growth strategy.
Impact
The appointment established a technology leadership function capable of driving innovation across the organisation while strengthening governance, resilience and operational efficiency. By aligning technology investment with commercial objectives, the business was able to enhance data-driven decision making, improve systems reliability, strengthen cyber security and create a scalable technology platform capable of supporting future expansion. The result was an IT function positioned as a strategic partner to the wider business, delivering measurable value to both employees and customers.
